In "I am From" poem, we were asked to follow a guideline to write a poem about what made us who we were at the beginning of the grade.

I Am From
I am from a city by the sea
except it couldn’t be farther away
I am from a cave that helps me escape from a cage
I am from long dark nights
the fear that something is out there
what’s casting that shadow?
I am from cold pasta and green beans
Every. Single. Night.
I am from the occasional great meal
shared with guests from far away
I am from building blocks
attempted sales and pretended purchases
dreams of a job that doesn’t exist
I am from intended innocence
that turned out splendid (it didn’t)
I am from ICE CREAM and learning to point my fingers at something to make it die
pew pew pew
working up the courage to ask for a game
I am from Italian plumbers and giant turtle dragons
a challenge that took me 20 hours to beat the first time
but now takes 30 minutes
I am from laser swords
borrowed from a big blue movie ticket
I am from sad books
knowing that no matter how bad thing seem here
Felix has cancer and Ned is never going to get his head back
I am from happy books
even though everyone died
at least once
Charlie got some good real estate though...
I am from 1 fat turtle
1 happy dog
2 dead tadpoles
5 dead fish
1 alive fish with 5 dead fish in it’s belly
1 other fish that’s fearing for it’s life
and 800 snails
you can’t really tell if they’re dead or not (because they’re snails)
I am from “It’ll all be the same in 100 years”
I am from a lot of places
They made me who I am today
And the things I encounter in the future will do nothing but make me who I am then
I don’t know what those things may be
But I like to think that where I am from has prepared me
